crow’s nest

The “nest” is literal, by the way: this is where I’ll be piling up all the objects I find shiny enough to be worth writing about. Although I suppose the allusion to ships works nicely, too. Consider me perched atop a mast, looking out at some horizon.

Substack is a good place, I think, to start conversations that are more than tweets (which I’m getting tired of) and less than essays (which I already do a fair amount of). If you followed my Wordpress or my Twitter, you’ll know that I usually write about finance, climate, economic development, and other policy-relevant stuff. But I’ve started to write about other things, including broader political economy questions, books I’m reading, and, since it’s in vogue, our amorphous and alienating information environments. I want to use my writing here to flesh out my own thinking on these topics, just as much as I want to continue to write for people interested in them. If, somehow, that’s you, well… welcome to the party.

(Sometimes I write for other publications. I’ll link those here as well.)

about me

If you want to learn more about what I actually do, you can always check out my Wordpress, where I used to blog. There’s an About page and everything. I’m also on Twitter at @advaitarun_ and on Bluesky at @advaitarun.
